Relationship(s): Maki Harukawa <3 Tsumugi Shirogane
Word Count: 280 words
Summary: Maki couldn't refuse, not anymore.
Glassy eyed Maki looked at the dying daylight as the wind kissed her hands and lips burned.
"Maki, you should get inside" Tsumugi says. Standing on the edge of the door, because she wasn't dressed for the snow storm about to blow. Maki doesn't turn. Letting the only sound be the posters flying in the sky. Not even the week before Tsumugi helped clean out a festering wound. Maki couldn't remember when the other started keeping a first aid kit. She doesn't think about if it ever mattered.
Footsteps that shouldn't be came closer to Maki. The seconds counted before warm hands bring a shock to the back of her neck. Droplets of melted ice escape Maki's eyes as Tsumugi rubs circles in her tense muscles. Tsumugi's voice, somehow above the chilling sirens, let loose its cheap sourpatch sweetness:
"It's gonna happen either way, with or without you."
Yesterday had been a long awaited date. They simply weaved among crowds and stray-cats as they looked for food or sights to savour. Maki had held Tsumugi's hand, fingers like puzzle-pieces as Tsumugi asked for a favour that Maki couldn't refuse.
Yesterday should've been something to adore.
Tsumugi should've stayed something to adore.
Turning around the face the TDR employee, looking into eyes that she wished were warm with affection for her. Maki answered "the list of people, they haven't changed?"
Tsumugi grabbed her hand, pulling as if to guide her into the overly sterile office building, smile still plastic since yesterday "it's only five you have to hunt down, the rest have already been taken care of."
Maki didn't say a word, simply allowed herself to be pulled into the agreement.
